It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in the relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

Side Effects of DDR 30mg Capsule

Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence.

Quick Suggestions:

• Avoid excessive consumption of carbonated beverages, soft drinks, citrus juices, fried foods, and caffeinated beverages like tea and coffee.
• Limit or avoid alcohol and smoking.
• Try not to eat late at night or right before bedtime.
• If you experience watery diarrhea, fever, or persistent stomach pain, consult your doctor promptly.
• If your symptoms don't improve after taking Dexlansoprazole for 14 days, it's essential to inform your doctor, as there might be an underlying issue that requires attention.
• Long-term use of Dexlansoprazole can potentially lead to weakened bones and mineral deficiencies like magnesium. Ensure you have an adequate intake of calcium and magnesium through your diet or supplements, as prescribed by your doctor.
• Keep an eye out for signs of kidney problems, including decreased urination, swelling (edema) due to fluid retention, lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, and the development of a rash or fever. If you notice these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

Indication

1. Healing of erosive esophagitis: Dexlansoprazole is used for treating all grades of erosive esophagitis (EE) for up to 8 weeks.
2. Maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis: Dexlansoprazole is employed to maintain the healing of EE and relieve heartburn for up to 6 months.
3. Symptomatic non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease: Dexlansoprazole is indicated for the treatment of heartburn associated with symptomatic non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) for a period of 4 weeks.

Pharmacology

Dexlansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), inhibits gastric acid secretion by specifically targeting (H+/K+) ATPase in gastric parietal cells, which is responsible for the final step of acid production. It's a dual delayed-release (DDR) formulation in capsule form, consisting of two types of enteric-coated granules with different pH-dependent dissolution profiles. This leads to two separate peak plasma concentration times. Dexlansoprazole is metabolized in the liver and excreted in the urine.

Dosage & Administration of DDR 30mg Capsule

• Maintenance of Healed erosive esophagitis and relief of heartburn: 30 mg Once daily
• Symptomatic Non-Erosive GERD: 30 mg Once daily for 4 weeks
• Healing of erosive esophagitis: 60 mg Once daily for up to 8 weeks Dexlansoprazole can be taken with or without food, and the capsule should be swallowed whole. Alternatively, the capsules can be opened, and the intact granules can be sprinkled onto a tablespoon and then swallowed immediately without chewing.

Interaction

Dexlansoprazole may interact with drugs like atazanavir, warfarin, tacrolimus, clopidogrel, and methotrexate. There is no available data regarding interactions with food or other substances.

Contraindications

Patients who are known to be allergic to any component of the preparation should not use dexlansoprazole.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Dexlansoprazole is classified as pregnancy category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies on its use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Precautions are advised for conditions such as gastric neoplasms, Clostridium difficile-related diarrhea, fractures, hypomagnesemia, and simultaneous use of dexlansoprazole and methotrexate.
